The Wisdom Book

Esta_mahlangu A friend turned me on to this: WisdomBook.org by Andrew Zuckerman

If you have not seen it, I consider it a must.

All the way from conception to organization, execution, display and presentation, every inch of the refinement and excellence of this work is unparalleled.

The movie, The Secret, took the world by storm by its impeccable marketing, presentation and heart-filled message–and despite anyone’s opinion about the content, it was a work that raised the bar for marketers and coaches worldwide, raising questions like how did they DO that? Who built the package? How did Rhonda Burns get so many amazing people to participate–not just interviewees, but artists, marketers, designers and producers–who created a package that was so stunning, appealing and compelling.

NOW THE WISDOM BOOK. Talk about compelling. It’s an enormous opus presenting the most beautiful photos and interviews of wise people over 70. It raises the bar once again–not just singular jumps, but quantum leaps.

Andrew Zuckerman is a master of simplicity and elegance. He even discusses how he packed the bags and how they set up the film sets in order to ‘democratize’ the settings for each interviewee. Every inch of the process is painstakingly thought-out and seamlessly integrated to produce one of the finest books and websites (and documentary on itself!) that I’ve seen in a long time.

When I first went to check it out, I had to unglue myself after an hour of fascination, so be aware that it will pull you in–in a most wonderful way.

The Wisdom Book is an exquisitely filmed group of elders sharing their wisdom unabashedly and quixotically and vulnerably. What a breath of fresh air! It’s about time we stopped being so obsessed with our youth culture and remembered to have some respect for our elders!

I think you’ll love it, too. WisdomBook.org

Seth Godin’s ‘Tribes’

Seth-godin-tribesI just finished reading Seth Godin’s new book, ‘Tribes.’ If you haven’t picked it up yet, I’m thinking that you’ll want to if you have any interest at all in how our tolerance for push marketing is now close to zero, and instead we are actively drawn to, seeking and  cultivating more connection, relationships and passion.

He says: “A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea….A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate….Human beings…need to belong. We want to belong to not just one tribe, it turns out, but to many….Tribes make our lives better. And leading a tribe is the best life of all.”

He discusses social media (twitter, facebook, etc.) and how there are literally thousands of ways to connect, and how, with just one idea, each of us is a leader. He says, “The market needs you…and your vision and your passion.”

As a staunch proponent of living life with passion, I am so excited to see this book and its celebration of the individual’s potential to co-create a world of more passion and heart-filled creativity. Amazon has it.

Are You an Artist? Or Like to Live Artfully?

Lyon-happy-to-be-me  As many of you know, I am not only an EFT practitioner and trainer, but a professional author and artist as well. I chose about 8 years ago to allow my painting and carving to take a backseat to my EFT work, my writing, teleclasses and other interests.

But suddenly this summer I began to get itchy to carve again, so I ordered some stone and have been hacking away happily in my back yard under the monkeypod tree.

It’s been a real adventure, because I found that, not only did I have the same passion for carving as I did before, I also had the same doubts and fears about selling and marketing my artwork as before. It was as if I had simply put the book down for a while, and picked it up on the same page.

But now I have massive tools with which to deal with all that stuff, and so far the journey back into carving *and* selling my work could only be called miraculous.

So I’ve decided to share my adventure with you in my upcoming blogs and teleclasses, so those of you who have been closet artists, artist who hate to sell, artists who have had their hearts broken or dreams tromped on but still want to keep on keeping on, and those who just like to live more consciously, can see and discover from what I’ve done and gone through to create the incredible results I’ve had in only a couple months. Whaledreamers is Back!

Whale-2WHALEDREAMERS Produced by Julian Lennon (John Lennon’s son by his first wife).

This visually stunning film offers an incredible glimpse into a rarely seen and scarcely understood tribal culture whose entire story of creation revolves around whales and has endured for centuries.

I was appalled that, during the international peace gathering they created in the late 90s the group was told to leave one of the tribe’s sacred sites–all they were doing was standing at the cliff endge and calling the whales.

A wooden platform (that was safety-fenced) had even been built over the area used for ceremony to keep tourists from falling into the sea. Amazing how people can be so oblivious.

The film passionately explores the connection between the subtle elegance of these “mothers of the sea” and ancient civilizations around the world whose culture and very existence is based on whales. Intertwining incredible underwater footage with ancient legend, Whaledreamers examines the complex past and the possibly dire future of human civilization.

Whale-1

I highly recommend this film. I love that, at the end, they say, “what can you do? Do something. Do anything!”

Told with moving optimism and spiritual strength, it is a clarion call encouraging humanity¹s reconnection to the profound beauty of the natural world and is an appeal to embrace all living beings thereby creating the unity and peace which the Earth itself can bring.

Those of you who love EFT and/or want to be an animal communicator will love this inspiring and uplifting talk with one of the most in-demand animal communicators in the US.

You’ll find out how she learns all about the animals’ humans in her sessions, whether the human has said anything or not! How she got into the trade, even though she wanted and trained to be an actress in Hollywood, and lots more.

You can get a copy of her inspiring book, Communicating with All Life at her site, JoanRanquet.com.

I’ve been really loving reading her book–Joan’s big love, wry humor and deep compassion saturates all of her stories about the humans and animals with whom she has worked.

And…If you are an EFT or Energy Practitioner, you’ll want to check out EFTBizSuccess.com where you can get specifically targeted information just for you about how to build your business.

IDYRadio-120If you are an animal communicator, you’ll be delighted with the very detailed business info Colleen Flanagan shares about how to start up and get going and keep going with your animal business.

Maybe you don’t know that your practice is not your business. Your business is the admin, marketing, financial, client attraction and handling part. If you don’t have that down, you’re in for trouble–you need a structure within which to build your practice so it isn’t all over the place, you’re not running ragged with more clients than time, or getting underpaid for vast overworking.

I collected the Inside Secrets to Energy Business Success from over a dozen energy practitioners, and they laid it on thick! They shared where they stumbled and fell so you can avoid doing that.

Many who work in the energy field are uncomfortable with ’selling’ or ‘marketing.’ You’ll find that you’ll be able to market your work easily without feeling like you’re ’selling out’ once you hear and read all the massive input from these experts.

I invite you to check it out now at EFTBizSuccess.com.

Great News for Artists

Artist-flip Well-known Canadian Painter Robert Genn has a bi-weekly newsletter that I subscribe to, and I was delighted to read this after Obama won the election:

“Of interest is Obama’s cultural program….Obama wants to increase funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and change the Federal Tax Code for artists.

He has ideas like sending out “Artists Corps” to underprivileged schools and communities, expansion of public-private partnerships to increase cultural education programs, cultural diplomacy and the inclusion of foreign talent, less inward-looking xenophobia all ’round, as well as health care for artists.

Obama also backs Senator Patrick Leahy’s “Artist-Museum Partnership Act,” allowing artists to deduct the fair market value of work given to charitable institutions. We might hope that this enlightenment may shine on fundraisers* too.

Positive change in this last area would do wonders for charities. Fundraisers would attract better and more valuable art, raise standards, and would give relief to perpetually beleaguered artists. Think of the value to educational institutions alone.”

It’s been a long, gory 8 years being an artist in this last administration–guess you might say I’m stoked to see the change. Read more

Sweet Music, Sweet Days in Hawaii

Hawaiian-tile3 I’m remembering how it used to be here in Hawaii before it got so populated. I came to Maui in 1966, and later lived for years on the island of Kauai in the tiny town of Kekaha, which was built up around a sugar plantation.

At times the cane fields would go up in flames that would rise higher than our rooftops, the stems being burnt in preparation for harvesting and the smoke and the sweet smell of molasses permeated everything.

(This is ‘Ku’ulei,’ one of the porcelain tiles I created when I lived there–I was a potter for a long time, until I shifted over to carving stone in 1983.)

My kids and I were the only haoles (white people) in a mostly Filipino settlement. They thought I was weird because, as an artist working for myself, I didn’t work for the plantation–and I thought they were weird for making blood pudding, eating dried, smelly sardines and killing pigs under my window once a month. But after a while the hard edges of our judgements wore off and I was honored that we eventually became an accepted part of that group of really wonderful people.

KANEOHE-BAY-tile We used to gather spontaneously on someone’s back steps near the beach in the afternoon, break out the guitars, ukuleles, beer and sodas and our kids would run around as we talked story and sang Hawaiian songs and gobbled tons of local food.

This is ‘Kaneohe Bay,’ an oil painting I did here on Oahu that reminds me of the afternoons we spent so long ago.

Today I found a site with music like we used to sing, and wanted to share it with you because the music gives such a taste of what it felt like then–slow, uncomplicated, sweet, and sometimes very funny.

The Hawaiian language is full of puns–with four, five, even six levels of meaning with every well-thought phrase–so a song about a man’s prowess surfing could be taken many ways! The impromptu hulas we did when we sang them were always a source of hilarity. If you go here you will see a list of sample songs.

The music is acoustic slack-key guitar. The guitar first came to Hawaii in the 19th century with the Mexican cowboys (paniolos), but when they left, no one could figure out how to tune them. They ’slacked’ the strings, until a single chord was formed in what they call ‘open’ tuning. A whole tradition has grown up around that sound, and these songs are little bitty samples of the feeling of the islands. Read more

What Are You Creating Today?

Laugh-3hIn the past couple days, I’ve talked to a whole lot of people who have all said the same thing: I feel so strange, like I’m out of energy, or angrier than I’ve ever been, or numb, or depressed. If this is what you, too, are feeling, remember that it’s not just you–it’s all the energy around you, too.

I see it like this: we are little pieces of driftwood floating down Life’s River.

Sometimes we get caught in the Rapids or the Whirlpool or going over the Waterfall, and it feels exciting or terrifying (or whatever word you want to use to identify the feeling you’re feeling).

But it’s more than you–the energy of Life is all around you, and you’re feeling your part of it.

There’s a great way to disengage with what’s bigger than you so you can handle what IS you. Try this: Read more

Maverick Wealth and Success

Intent Not long ago, “Jim,” a chiropractor, came to me for coaching, wanting to increase his income.

He was making enough to cover his expenses, and that was about it. He wasn’t even paying himself.

He felt frustrated, angry and disappointed in himself and his practice, because he wanted to help more people but just couldn’t figure out how to do it within the personal, time and financial restraints he was experiencing.

Over the next three months, we worked on *one* particular private-life issue. Our success with that resulted in his now being able to see and help three to five hundred people a *week,* and increase his income to over half a million dollars a year–without spending one red penny over what he had already been paying for advertising.

You might say that any coach, therapist or practitioner could have helped him do that, too, and you’d probably be right.

But they wouldn’t have done it as fast. Why? Because I have a maverick system that accelerates and deepens the healing process to the point where, once my client really gets (and employs!) the incredible power of this one system, they turn into human rocket ships.

I taught this same maverick method to Jim when we first started working together. So  instead of working on this, working on that for a year, we zeroed in and got results way past his original goals. Read more
